Woo hoo! My first ever time!

I'm going to own a car!

I just booked a Toyota Yaris, off peak version, for a change in lifestyle. Heehee

It really took me a long long time to decide if I wanted a car, something that would be like a little leech sucking my bank account dry. I was thinking:

- Would I really need a car?

- Parking parking parking

- Taxis vs Car Ownership

- Being half the time in Singapore only

- Maintenance, petrol (US please leave Iran alone..haha), Insurance

- Money money money

But then I thought of it as trading in money (that I should be able to spare lah...not that I would have to starve to feed my car) for time, convenience and a little change in lifestyle. Keeping too much cash is being too thrifty. Keeping too little cash is being spendthrift. So I think its best to seek a nice balance of having the best of both worlds! Since I'm now short of time to do what I want to do with my girlfriend, family and friends, I might as well expend a bit of $$ for the time I need to have a more fulfilling and happier lifestyle!

Of course, the money used in a car can be better spent for investments and for my future but as some people has mentioned to me, sometimes its better to live within your means and for today. As long as you are happy, you are only young once, you should enjoy life. Not wait until you get married with children to take care of and too old to get around and enjoy the little pleasures in life like eating with friends, catching up and spending more quality time with more varied activities with loved ones like girlfriend and parents.

Buying a car gives me the freedom and convenience to do go where I want, when I want to. Just like when I was in Jandakot, Western Australia where I owned a A$900 Mazda 323 hatchback that gave me the freedom to explore and make ad hoc visits to family and friends there. How I wish I could do that in Singapore too! Hence the car!

With a car, I will be able to allocate more time for my loved ones and bring them around where they want to go instead of always thinking how long it will take to go to a certain place and how inconvenient it is to do so just for a taste of the BBQ chicken wings at East Coast or the Tao Huay at Geylang or the Suckling Pig at Tiong Bahru etc etc. With the car, I can finally go to the one place I haven't seen: Sungei Buloh Nature Park! Also, I can resume my favourite hobby! ASTRONOMY! Now I can go and watch meteor showers when I want to and go along for stargazing sessions with people from SingAstro (a local astronomy group). Life seems to be getting better! :)

Well, I won't get the car till after mid-June but I can't wait! Being a 28 year old guy who always liked driving (since getting a licence at 17 years 11 months old! Hee hee), its going to be a big lifestyle change. Though I won't miss buses and MRTs because I'll still take them during peak hours. :) Best of both worlds!

Those of you who drive, give me some tips can? :) And it'll be nice to catch up with you! People like Freddie, Dennis, Jen Hou, Aylwin, Joseph, Alvin, Kok Joo, Choo Chian etc I'll be calling you out soon man! No holds barred! Anywhere, Anytime!

See you! :)
