Happy National Day!

Its the 41st anniversary of Singapore's independence! Time really flies... I still can remember the 25th National Day and all its splendour!

When I was in primary school, I remember that we used to learn so many Singapore songs. Stand Up For Singapore, We Are Singapore, Count On Me Singapore etc etc...all classics now. I used to anticipate watching a new Singapore MTV when National Day arrives and every year (for a while, in the 90's and 80's), there would be a deluge of Singapore MTVs during August and late July. This trend seemed to be gone though...or maybe I'm just watching less TV. Hee hee..

Anyway, its great to see Singapore going strong after so many years. I'm proud to be a Singaporean, especially when I keep jetsetting to so many places in the world and am able to compare the pros and cons of each country I go to as compared to Singapore. The number one thig I miss when I leave Singapore (other than loved ones) are the FOOD and the PROXIMITY. Singapore is so small, that everything is accessible so easily! Of course, there are some cons about my country but I'm happy to report that the weighing scale is tipped quite heavily in the pros corner.

Well, tonight there will be another grand celebration in the most traditional of ways. The National Day Parade. Every year, its format is so tried and tested that nothing really changes. But this year, the National Stadium plays its last show before it leaves the surface of the earth...forever captured in photos and videos as memories...

To all Singaporeans, Happy National Day! Enjoy the holiday and be proud of who we are and what we have achieved these 41 years! :)
